Maundy Thursday Worship

Thursday, March 29, at 6:30 PM

What is “Maundy Thursday”?

Maundy Thursday gets its name from the Latin, mandatum novarum, which means “a new commandment.” On this special evening, we re-enact and celebrate Jesus’ new commandment to “love one another.”

What is unique about Maundy Thursday worship?

Maundy Thursday worship is a hands-on experience. We begin with a simple Agape Meal of soup and bread, then celebrate communion with folks at our table. After communion, those who wish to participate have the opportunity to wash the feet of another person. Men and women meet in separate rooms for foot washing.

Two foot-washing options will be offered: the traditional basin of water with a towel, and the option of using fresh water and a disposable towel for each individual. Foot washing is voluntary, and no one will be made to feel uncomfortable who chooses to observe rather than participate.

Is this a “family friendly” event?

Yes! We encourage you to participate in this special evening with your family. Younger children can receive bread and a grape during the communion time. Nursery care will be provided, following the meal, for infants and young children.

The evening will conclude in worship, focusing on the suffering and death of Jesus.
