You are invited to Community Mennonite Fellowship for a Maundy Thursday service at 6:30 PM, on April 1, the evening before Good Friday. The service will include a simple Agape Meal of soup and bread, followed by communion. The night will conclude in worship, focusing on the suffering and death of Jesus. This is a “family friendly” event, so bring your children so they, too, can experience this special night. The nursery will be open for parents to use.
What is “Maundy Thursday”?
Maundy Thursday gets its name from the Latin, mandatum novarum, which means “a new commandment.” On this special evening, we re-enact and celebrate Jesus’ new commandment to “love one another.”
What is unique about Maundy Thursday worship?
Maundy Thursday worship is a hands-on experience. We begin with a simple Agape Meal of soup and bread, then celebrate communion with folks at our table.
In past years, after communion, an opportunity to wash the feet of another person was given to those who wished to participate. Men and women met in separate rooms for foot washing. However, due to the current pandemic, foot washing will not be practiced at this year’s Maundy Thursday worship service.
Is this a “family friendly” event?
Yes! We encourage you to participate in this special evening with your family. Younger children can receive bread and a grape during the communion time. The Nursery will be open for parents to use.
The evening will conclude in worship, focusing on the suffering and death of Jesus.
